FERPA Policy
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) states
that directory information may be released to third parties without
the consent of the student. Webster University has adopted an internal
institutional policy to release, upon request by a third party,
information to confirm enrollment, attendance, and degrees earned.
However, student's address/phone numbers and their class schedules
will not routinely be released to third parties, except at the discretion
of the Registrar or a staff member who has undergone FERPA training.
Directory information includes:
- student's name
- local/permanent address
- local/permanent phone number
- enrollment status
- class schedule
- degrees earned
- dates of attendance
- major field of study
- admission status
- campus
- school or college
- division
- class standing
- awards/honors
- photographs
- class rosters
- participation in officially recognized activities or sports
- weight and height of student athletes
Request for Non-Disclosure of Directory Information
Students have the right to restrict the disclosure of Directory
Information by completing the appropriate form at the Office of
the Registrar, Enrollment Service Center or Extended Campus while
the student is currently enrolled. Non-disclosure will be enforced
until the information is subsequently released by the student. The
University will honor this request but cannot assume responsibility
to contact the student for future permission to release information.
Regardless of the effect upon the student, the institution assumes
no liability for honoring the request to restrict disclosure of
directory information.
Restriction of Directory Information will preclude Webster University's
ability to confirm your attendance or, if in effect upon graduation
disclose the degree attained for employment, credit, or other purposes.
All future requests for Directory Information from third parties
will be refused unless accompanied by a signed release of information
form.
